South Luangwa Photographic Safari

Guided by Rowan Poortier

Overview

Join me, Rowan Poortier, for an exclusive 7-night photographic safari in the heart of South Luangwa — one of Africa’s best locations for predator photography. With a private vehicle limited to only 4 guests, expert local guiding, and personalized photographic hosting, this safari is designed for those looking to capture relaxed big cats and diverse wildlife in a wild, authentic setting.

We’ll be based at Chikunto Safari Lodge, perfectly situated in the central part of South Luangwa National Park. Its prime location along the Luangwa River means we’re right in the action — surrounded by some of the best game-viewing areas in the region, with quick access to a variety of habitats and consistent predator activity.

Getting there is easy, with frequent international flights to Lusaka available through major airlines like Emirates and Qatar Airways, making your journey smooth and well-connected. A 1h 10-minute internal flight from Lusaka with Proflight (23 kg luggage allowance plus 5 kg hand luggage allowance) brings you to the regional Mfuwe Airport where you will be met.

Highlights

South Luangwa is a fantastic destination for photographing big cats, especially leopards and lions, which are often seen up close and are relaxed around vehicles. There’s also a good chance to see and photograph wild dogs, elephants, hyenas, and a wide variety of birdlife. The open plains, woodlands, and the winding Luangwa River offer a beautiful and wild backdrop for creative wildlife photography.
